1) What is the PAL+ Program?
Show/Hide
The PAL+ Program is offered by the Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic to help
low income community members spay (females) or neuter (males) their cats, kittens, puppies,
and dogs. Funding from the PAL+ Program currently covers the entire cost of the spay or
neuter surgery. Special pricing is offered for rabies vaccinations, distemper combo vaccinations,
and microchipping.
2) Why should animals be spayed/neutered?
Show/Hide
3) Is it really important to have my animals vaccinated?
Show/Hide
Rabies vaccinations are required by law in Larimer County. Any animal having a spay/neuter
surgery at our clinic must receive a rabies vaccination unless a current rabies certificate
is provided.
Distemper combo vaccinations are important for keeping upper respiratory viruses in check
and preventing deadly diseases such as parvo and distemper.
4) Isn't microchipping a luxury?
Show/Hide
No. The latest statistics from Larimer Humane Society show that only 14% of cats/kittens and 73% of
dogs/puppies brought into the shelter are reunited with their owners due to a lack of identification.
When an animal is brought into a shelter or veterinary clinic, he/she is first scanned for a microchip.
For an animal that has been microchipped, a quick phone call to the family will reunite them. An animal
who is not microchipped may sit in the shelter for several days before his/her family locates their lost
family member. Low-income families may not be able to afford the fees charged by the shelter to reclaim
their pet, and therefore in some instances end up having to surrender a beloved pet.
Microchipping helps to ensure your family member will be returned home when they become separated,
especially when emergencies occur.
5) Where does funding for the PAL+ Program come from?
Show/Hide
Funding for the program comes in large part from grants received from wonderful local foundations
as well as national organizations. We also receive funding from individual donors who recognize
the importance of this program and from fundraising events.
6) Who can apply for PAL+?
Show/Hide
Any resident of Larimer or Weld counties may apply for PAL+ funding. However, you must provide
proof that you are low income and/or on government assistance.
7) How do I apply for PAL+?
Show/Hide
An application must be completed and turned in along with a photocopy of your ID and proof of
income and/or government assistance. For example, a photocopy of your food stamp or Medicaid
card or pay stub will suffice.
Applications may be picked up at our clinic and shelter facilities at 2321 E. Mulberry Street
Units 1 and 9 (near the southwest corner of Mulberry and Timberline) in Fort Collins, on our
website at www.FCCRSNC.org, or by calling (970)484-1861 to request one by mail.
8) How many pets can I seek funding for?
Show/Hide
You may apply for funding for all pets you own at the time that you submit your PAL+ application.
9) How long will I remain on the program?
Show/Hide
If you qualify, you will be a PAL+ client for the time that it takes to complete your pets' spays/neuters
and take advantage of special PAL+ pricing for distemper combo vaccinations, follow up boosters for the
combo vaccinations and microchipping.
10) What if I get a new pet after submitting an application for my current pets? Can I apply for PAL+?
Show/Hide
You cannot apply for PAL+ funding for any new pets after your initial application. If you are
struggling to provide veterinary care for your current pets, we recommend that you not add more
pets to your family. However, we understand that there are situations where an abandoned animal
(or an animal that would otherwise end up in a shelter) is taken in after the initial application
is processed. These situations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
If you have questions about the application process, please contact PAL+ Coordinator
